NUT SCREWS


Our grandma always made these when we were young. She loved serving them whenever she had guests over, probably because they are the perfect nibble to a cup of coffee. We might not get it back then, but we certainly do now :)

INGREDIENTS
METHOD

250g "Topfen"

240g Flour

70G caster sugar

100g butter

150g ground hazelnuts

40g of breadcrumbs

40 ml rum

170 ml milk

4 tbls honey

1. beat the flour, Topfen, sugar and butter together and then knead it until you get a nice ball of dough.

2. pop the dough in the fridge for about 20 minutes.
​
3. in the mean time prepare the nut filling. In a pot, heat up the milk and then add the hazelnuts and breadcrumbs. mix it well
​
4. add the honey and the rum and again, mix it well. Set the nut mixture aside and let it cool.
​
5. get the dough out of the fridge and roll it into a thin layer. then cut rectangles about 10-15 cm long and 7 cm wide.
​
6. Put the cooled nut mixture on each rectangle and then twist them.
​
7. place the "nut screws" on a lined baking tray and brush over some egg yolk. Add some sugar pearls on top.

8. Bake for about 15-20 minutes until they are gold brown.
